The correct option is A (1/2) mole of N2O
(1/2) mole of N2O
Oxidation state of nitrogen in HNO3
Let the oxidation state of nitrogen in HNO3 be x.
1+x+(3×2)=0
x5=0
x=5
Hence, Oxidation state of nitrogen in HNO3=+5
As given that 4 moles of electrons are transferred to one mole of HNO3 i.e., the oxidation no. of nitrogen in reduction product becomes +1.
Hence, the possible reduction product is (1/2) mole of N2O as the oxidation no. of nitrogen is +1 in N2O.
