Exothermic reactions are reactions in which energy is released in the form of heat. For example, the burning of methane gives out energy.

So in this reaction along with the products the heat is also released which is shown on the right hand with the symbol of + which means excess heat is given out.

Thus '+ heat' is written on the right-hand side, an exothermic reaction.
