Given,ABAC=12
Ar(ΔABC)=5 sq.units

Consider ΔADB and ΔABC
BAD=BAC (common angle)
BDA=ABC=90

By AA similarity criterion,
ΔADBΔABC

We know, in two similar triangles, the ratio of their areas is the square of the ratio of their corresponding sides.

Hence,
Ar(ΔADB)Ar(ΔABC)=(ABAC)2=(12)2=14

Ar(ΔADB)×4=Ar(ΔABC)Ar(ΔADB)=54=1.25 sq.units

Hence, the area of ΔABD is
