Fraction of students that chose chess =25
Fraction of students that chose volleyball =18
Sum of the fraction of students that chose chess and volleyball =25+18

We need to make the denominators the same for both fractions.
Multiplying the fraction 25 by 8, we get:
25=2×85×8=1640
18 by 5, we get:
18=1×58×5=540
Sum of the fraction of students that chose chess and volleyball =1640+540=2140
Hence, total fraction of students that chose chess and volleyball =2140
Total number of students =1200
