In a section $A$ of a class having $45$ students ,$20$ are girls .In section $B$of the same class having $30$students ,$15$ are girls .Which section has a smaller fraction of girls

Fraction is the ratio of its to Whole

In Section $A$number of girls $=20$

Total number of student in section $A$$=45$

Fraction of girls in section $A$

$$\begin{gathered} =\frac{20}{45} \\ =\frac{4}{9} \end{gathered}$$

In section $B$number of girls $=15$

Total number of girls in section $B$$=30$

Fraction of girls in section $B$

$$\begin{gathered} =\frac{15}{30} \\ =\frac{1}{2} \end{gathered}$$

Take the LCM of denominator of these fraction $\frac{4}{9}\&\frac{1}{2}$

we get $18$ ,multiply the same number in numerator and denominator so that in both of these to fraction denominator will be $18$

$$\begin{gathered} \frac{4}{9}\&\frac{1}{2} \\ \frac{4\times 2}{9\times 2}\&\frac{1\times 9}{2\times 9} \\ \frac{8}{18}\&\frac{9}{18} \end{gathered}$$

smaller the numerator fraction will be smaller .

$$\begin{gathered} \frac{8}{18}<\frac{9}{18} \\ \frac{4}{9}<\frac{1}{2} \end{gathered}$$

So section $A$ has smaller fraction and it is $\frac{4}{9}$
