Solution

The correct option is C

1eV

  1. In a conductor, the separation between the conduction band and valence band is zero.
  2. In an insulator, the separation between the conduction band and valence band is greater than 1eV.
  3. In a semiconductor, the separation between the conduction band and valence band is 1eV.

Also, we know,

  1. For semiconductor germanium, the separation between the conduction band and valence band is EgGe=0.67eV
  2. And for semiconductor silicon, the separation between the conduction band and valence band is EgSi=1.1eV
  3. We can see that these two values lie closer to 1eV.

Therefore, the separation between the conduction band and valence band is of the order of 1eV

Hence, option C is the correct option.
