In a solar cooler following arrangements are made. Write one function of each arrangement.
(i) The box is made of insulating material such as plastic or wood
(ii) A plane mirror is hinged at an angle at the top of the box.

Solution

(i) In order for the box to reach interior temperature high enough for cooking, the walls and the bottom of the box must have good insulation(heat retention) value. Good insulating material include: aluminium foil(radiant reflector), feather(down feather are best), wood etc.
(ii) With the help of a plane mirror (reflecting surface), you will be able to increase the temperature and to cook the food more rapidly.
