In a square ABCD , if AB = (3x - 8) cm and BC = (x+6) cm , find the value of x . Also , find the length of each side of the square.

Solution

In square, $A B C D$ , $A B = B C = C D = A D$
$∴ 3 x - 8 = x + 6 \Rightarrow 3 x - x = 6 + 8 \Rightarrow 2 x = 14$
$x = 7$
$∴ A B = 3 \times 7 - 8 = 13 c m$
Length of each side of square $= 13 c m$ .
