In a test with total of 60 questions, 3 marks is awarded for a correct answer and 1 mark is deducted for each wrong answer. Also, no marks is awarded or deducted for not attempting the question. Ranjan has got 110 in the particular test and he had not attempted 10 questions. How many questions did he answer correctly?

Let x be the number of questions answered correctly.

Number of questions attempted = 60 - 10 = 50

Number of questions answered incorrectly is =50−x.

According to the question, marks obtained is

⇒3x−(50−x)=110

⇒ 4x−50=110

⇒ 4x=110+50

⇒ 4x=160

⇒ x=1604

⇒ x=40

Thus, Ranjan has attempted 40 questions correctly.
