Question

In a thermocouple, cold junction is at 0C, hot junction is at tC. The graph drawn between thermo-emf (E) and temperature of the hot junction (t) is represented by the equation, E=at+bt2. If a=224b, the neutral and the inversion temperatures of the thermocouple respectively, in degree celsius are:

Solution

The correct option is D 112,224
The relation is given by,

E=bt2224bt ; as a=224b (given)

At neutral temperature, E becomes maximum. Hence, dEdt=0.

dEdt=2bt224b=0

t=1120C

Also, at inversion temperature, E=0. Hence,

E=bt2224bt=0

t=2240C
