Positive work:

  1. When the displacement of the body is towards the direction of the force then the work done is positive.
  2. Example: work done by pushing any object is positive.

Negative work:

  1. When the displacement of the body is in opposite direction to the direction of the force then the work done is negative.
  2. Example: Work done by frictional force.

Explaination of the event:

  1. In a tug of war winner team moves opposite to the direction of force applied by them so work done by winner team do negative work.
  2. In a tug of war looser team moves in the direction of force applied by them so work done by looser team do positive work.
