Let the number of rabbits be $x$
No of heads $= 90 \Rightarrow$ No of pigeons $= (90 - x)$
Since a pigeon has $2$ legs and a rabbit has 4 legs
$x \times 4 + (90 - x) \times 2 = 224$
$\Rightarrow$ $4 x + 180 - 2 x = 224$ $\Rightarrow$ $2 x = 224 - 180 = 44$
$\Rightarrow x = 22$
$∴$ No of pigeons $= 90 - 22 = 68$
