Active absorption means absorption against the concentration gradient, i.e., movement of water molecules from a region of lower concentration (higher OP) to a region of higher concentration of water molecules (lower OP). In this case, the cell sap of root hair cells will be lower and they will be having lesser OP as compared to the soil solution. However, lost of the water absorbed by plant roots is through passive absorption under the influence of transpiratory loss of water.
