Question

In an AP, the pth term is q, and the qth term is p. What is the nth term? ( Given pq)

Open in App
Solution

Let a and d be the first term and the common difference of the AP. We have

Tp=a+(p1)d=q ...... (i)

Tq=a+(q1)d=p ...... (ii)

By, (i) - (ii), we have

TpTq=(pq)d=qp

d=1

Using this value in (i) gives

a=p+q1

Now, the nth term is

Tn=a+(n1)d

=(p+q1)+(n1)(1)

=p+qn
