here is a similiar one

In a cinema halls 300 tickets were sold.the total sale of tickets were rs 1250.of the tickets were of two denominations rs 2.50 and rs.5.00

Let the number of Rs 2.50 tickets be x and 5.00 tickets be y.
As per the question, x+y = 300 (eq.1)
Also, 2.5x + 5.0x = 1250
2.5 ( x+2y) = 1250
x+ 2y = 1250/2.5
x+ 2y = 500 (eq.2)

(eq 2) - (eq 1)
x+2y - x-y = 500-300
y = 200

Substitute y in eq 1
x+200 = 300
x = 300-200
x = 100

Therefore, there are 100 Rs 2.5 tickets and 200 Rs 5.00 tickets.
