Question

In an ……. collision, the kinetic energy before collision is equal to the kinetic energy after collision.

Solution

  1. In an elastic collision, the bodies which undergo collision regain their shape and size completely after the collision. Initially, a part of kinetic energy converts into deformation energy during the collision.
  2. After the collision, the deformation energy is again converted into kinetic energy. Therefore, in an elastic collision, the kinetic energy before the collision is equal to the kinetic energy after the collision.
