In an election $6 %$ of the voters did not cast their votes. The winner by obtaining $54 %$ of the total votes defeated his contestant by 350 votes. How many votes the winner got?

Total number of votes = 100x (say)
The number who did not cast their votes = 6x
The winner got = 54x
The contestant got = 100x - (6x + 54x) = 40x
$∴$ By the problem,
54x - 40x = 350
or, 14x = 350
$o r, x = \frac{350}{14} = 25$
$54 x = 54 \times 25 = 1350$
The winner got 1350 votes.
