Solution

Ratio of votes = 5 :7
It’s quite obvious that a successful candidate will get more votes
Hence 7 parts of the ratio will correspond to the successful candidate and 5 parts of the ratio will correspond to his opponent
Successful candidate received = 20,734
7 parts of ratio = 20734
1 part of ratio = 20734 / 7
= 2962
5 parts of ratio = 5 x 2962
= 14,810
