In an election, there were two candidates A and B. 80% of the total votes of 6000 were polled. If 60% of the polled votes were cast in favour of A, find the number of votes cast in favour of B.

STEP 1 : Finding the number of votes cast in favour of A

Total number of votes =6000

Number of votes polled in the election =80%of6000

80100×6000=4800

60% of the polled votes were cast in favour of A, i.e.

Number of votes =60100×4800=60×48=2880

STEP 2 : Finding the number of votes cast in favour of B

Number of votes cast in favour of B =Total votes polled -Votes cast in favour of A

Number of votes cast in favour of B =4800-2880=1920

Hence, the number of votes cast in favour of B is 1920.
