Question

In an electric field an electron is kept freely. If the electron is replaced by a proton, what will be the relationship between the forces experienced by them?

Solution

The charges on the electron and the proton are same. The only difference is that the charge on an electron is negative and the charge on a proton is positive. Thus the magnitude of the forces acting on the electron and the proton will be equal but in the opposite direction. It can be written as,
Fp=Fe Where Fp is the force on the proton and Fe is the force on the electron.
