Question

In an exam conducted by UPSC, two hundred aspirants appeared. The average marks obtained by these aspirants is 39%. Among them the average marks obtained by the aspirants who passed the exam is 60%. The average marks obtained by the aspirants who failed in the exam among them is 30%. Find the number of aspirants
who passed the exam?

UPSC द्वारा आयोजित एक परीक्षा में, 200 उम्मीदवार सम्मिलित हुए। इन उम्मीदवारों द्वारा 39% औसत अंक प्राप्त किए गए। उनमें से उत्तीर्ण उम्मीदवारों द्वारा प्राप्त औसत अंक 60% है और अनुत्तीर्ण उम्मीदवारों द्वारा प्राप्त औसत अंक 30% हैं। उन उम्मीदवारों की संख्या ज्ञात कीजिए जिन्होंने परीक्षा उत्तीर्ण की?

The correct option is B 60
Total number of aspirants appeared in the exam = 200
Let number of failed candidates = x
Number of passed candidates = 200 – x
Now according to the question we get,
200 × 39 = 30x + 60(200-x)
Or 20 × 39 = 3x + 6(200 – x)
Or 780 = 3x + 1200 – 6x
Or 3x = 420
Or x = 140
Number of passed candidates = 200 – x = 200 – 140 = 60
Hence, option (b) is the correct answer.

परीक्षा में सम्मिलित होने वाले उम्मीदवारों की कुल संख्या = 200
माना कि अनुत्तीर्ण उम्मीदवारों की संख्या = x
उत्तीर्ण उम्मीदवारों की संख्या = 200 – x
अब प्रश्नानुसार हम पाते हैं, 200 × 39 = 30x + 60(200 – x)
