In an examination a student who gets 20% of maximum marks fail by 5 marks. Another student who scores 30% of the maximum marks gets 20 marks more than the pass marks. What is the necessary percentage required for passing ?

The correct option is A 22 %
Let the maximum marks be x.
Then Pass mark for the 1st student =20100×x+5
Pass mark for the 2nd student =30100×x20
Since pass marks are same for both the students 20x100+5=30x10020
10x100=25x=250
Pass mark =20100×250+5=55
Pass percentage =55250×100+5=22%
