Question

In an exothermic process, solubility _______ with an increase in temperature.

Solution

Exothermic reaction:-

  1. It is a type of chemical reaction in which there is a release of heat energy.
  2. After the release of heat energy from the reaction, the temperature of the system is increased.

Solubility:-

  1. It refers to the extent of solute to which it can dissolve in a solvent at a constant temperature.
  2. In a particular, it can be measured by the concentration of the saturated solution.

Le Chatelier's Principle:-

  1. If there is a change in temperature, pressure, and volume of a system then it would result in opposing changes from the system to maintain equilibrium.
  2. During the increase of temperature in this reaction, there would be more heat introduced in the system, so for maintaining the equilibrium of the system there would be a decrease in the solubility.

Therefore, In an exothermic process, solubility decreases with an increase in temperature.
