Total medals awarded = 60
Number of gold medals = 20
Number of silver medals = 20
Number of bronze medals = 20

Gold medals:
Total medals awarded = 20
France = 13
Germany = 5
Remaining won by Australia
= 20 – 13 – 5 = 2


Australia:
Total medals won by Australia
=13×Total medals=13×60=20

Gold medals = 2
∴ Number of silver and bronze medals = 20 – 2
= 18

We know that Australia won an equal number of silver and bronze medals.

Thus, the number of silver medals won
=12×18

=9

Thus, Australia won 9 silver medals in the competition.
