Let the total number of participants be represented by $1$, then the portion of total paticipants India will be

$$\begin{gathered} 1-\left(\frac{1}{5}+\frac{1}{8}+\frac{1}{12}\right) \\ =1-\left(\frac{49}{120}\right) \\ =\frac{71}{120} \end{gathered}$$

Now $$\begin{gathered} \frac{71}{120}x=71 \\ \Rightarrow x=120 \end{gathered}$$

So, the total number of surgeon attended the seminar was $120$
