In undrained triaxial test on a saturated clay volumetric strain is zero.

However to solve the problem we take lateral strain equal to zero (although it is not there)

ε3=0=σ3Eμσ1Eμσ2E

and

σ3=σ2

μ(σ3+σ1)=σ3

μ=(σ3σ3+σ1)
