Solution

a) Cotyledons emerge, enlarge and turn green in colour after the seed has germinated as they are often the first leaves of the seedling. They turn green to perform photosynthesis for the young plant. If the cotyledons do not turn green the young seedling will die.
b) On the basis of the number of cotyledons, angiosperms are classified into two categories namely monocotyledonous (when the seeds have one cotyledon) and dicotyledonous (when the seeds have to cotyledons).
c) Trees where seeds are not ennclosed in fruits, or in other words, trees having naked seeds, are called gymnosperms.
