In case of an earthquake, it is advised to get under a table. However, the table can also break if the roof of the house fells on it. So how is it helpful?

Yes, it is true. A better option would be to go outside in an open field. However, if it is not possible to go outside (lets say, someone stays at 20th floor), then it's safer to get under a table.
