In case of cactus plants the leaves are modified into spines. Why is it so and how do these plants fulfill their nutritional requirement

Leaves of cactus plants are modified into spines to reduce the loss of water through transpiration.

Here the spine does all the photosynthesis that the leaf used to do.

Other than that,there us not much difference in plant biology.
