Pancreas release the necessary amount of insulin (β cells of islets Langerhans) to maintain normal blood sugar levels. The loss of these cells means the body can no longer produce insulin, which leads to increase in the blood glucose level.
Pancreas also release glucagon (α cells of islets Langerhans) that is responsible increase in blood sugar level.
Both insulin and glucagon work antagonistically to regulate blood sugar level.
