Solution

The correct option is D Citric acid converts to αketoglutaric acid
Citric acid undergoes dehydration to form cis-aconitase which then undergoes hydration reaction to form isocitrate. Isocitrate dehydrogenase enzyme catalyzes oxidative decarboxylation of citric acid into alpha-ketoglutarate. Succinate dehydrogenate catalyzes dehydrogenation of succinate into fumarate which then undergoes hydration reaction to form malic acid. Malic acid is dehydrogenated into oxaloacetate by enzyme malate dehydrogenase. Condensation of oxaloacetate with acetyl-CoA forms a citric acid. So, conversion of citric acid into alpha-ketoglutarate is decarboxylation. Thus, the correct answer is option A.
