In class of $40$ pupils the number of girls is three-fifths of the number of boys. Find the number of boys in the class.

Let the number of boys in class $=x$

Number of girls in class $=y$

Given, Total no. of students $=40$

$\Rightarrow x+y=40$ .......(1)

Given that the number of girls is equal to three-fifths of boys.

$\Rightarrow y=\frac{3}{5}\left(x\right)$ ......($2$)

Substituting the value of y in equation (1)

$x+\frac{3}{5}x=40$

$\Rightarrow \frac{8}{5}x=40$

$\Rightarrow x=25$

$\therefore x=25,y=15$

Number of boys in class $=25$
