Question

In countries like USA and Canada, the temperature is measured in Fahrenheit, whereas in countries like India, it is measured in Celsius. Here is a linear equation that converts Fahrenheit to Celsius: F=95C+32. Draw the graph of the linear equation above using Celsius for the x-axis and Fahrenheit for the y-axis.

Solution

Step 1: Solve for the different coordinates to draw the graph of the linear equation.

Given: F=95C+32.

It can also be written as 5F=9C+160

Put C=0 in the given equation.

So,

F=950+32=32

Also, put F=0 in the given equation.

0=95C+32C=-32×59=-17.77

So, when C=0°,F=32° and

F=0°,C=-17.77°.

Step 2: Plotting points 0,32&-17.77,0.

Here, Y-axis represents the Fahrenheit scale and X-axis represents the Celsius scale.

Scale on X-axis and Y-axis is 2units=4°.

Hence, the graph of the given linear equation is shown above.
