Cycas is a gymnosperm. The gymnosperms produce microspores and megaspores which are produced in microsporangia and megasporangia borne on the sporophylls.The microsporophylls and megasporophylls, are arranged spirally on axis to form male and female cones, respectively. The microsporangia in Cycas are born on the sori on the abaxial or morphologically lower surface of microsporophylls.
The upper side of a leaf is known as the adaxial surface, facing towards the axis of the plant.
