Define of direct proportion

Two quantities $a$ and $b$ are said to be in direct proportion if they increase and decrease together. In other word, the ratio of their corresponding values remain constant . This means that

$\frac{a}{b}=k$

Where $k$ is a positive number, then the quantities $a$ and $b$ are said to vary directly

In such case if values $b_1,b_2$ of $b$corresponding to the values $a_1,a_2$ of $a$, respectively then it becomes $\frac{a_1}{b_1}=\frac{a_2}{b_2}$

Hence, in direct proportion $\frac{a_1}{b_1}=\frac{a_2}{b_2}$.
