Dear Student,
In plants, the evaporation of water is done by transpiration.Transpiration is the process by which excess water in plants is lost to the atmosphere in the form of water vapour through tiny pores present on the surface of the leaf called stomata.
Rate of evaporation under the following conditions:
1) On cloudy day – Due to lack of light on cloudy day, the rate of evaporation decreases.
2) No rainfall in the area- Due to lack of water, the inner walls of gaurd cells move together and closes the stomatal pore. So, the stomata remains closed for most of the time and hence the rate of evaporation decreases.
3) Good manuring in the area – If the soil has good amount of manure it becomes fertile. The good amount of humus is also made available to soil through manuring, then the soil is able to hold water which is required by plants. Thus, there is increase in the transportation of water into the plants which result in the increase in rate of evaporation.
4) Stomata get blocked due to dust- If the stomata present on the surface of leaves get blocked, the exit of water would be restricted which reduces the rate of evaporation.
