In embryo sac, n, 2n, 3n conditions are found respectively in antipodal, zygote and endosperm. A typical embryo sac, (female gametophyte) is composed of egg apparatus which is located towards the micropylar pole containing one egg cell and two synergid cells. Antipodal cells are three haploid cells (n) occurring towards the chalazal pole.
During fertilisation, the one male diploid gametes fuse with the egg nucleus to term zygote (2n) by the process called syngamy. The other male gamete fuses with the two polar nuclei of the central cell to give to the polyploid (typically triploid ) endosperm (3n).
