Question

In experiment to explain eddy currents, why didn't we use source of dc current?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

A eddy current are loops of electrical current induced within conductor produced by changing magnetic field in the conductor due to Faraday law of induction.Eddy current flow in closed loop within conductor in plane perpendicular to the magnetic field. This can be induced within nearby stationary conductor by time varying magnetic field. This created by AC electromagnet or transformer. But in DC motor a current carrying loop is situated in magnetic field with its plane parallel to magnetic field.Hence AC source is used.
