In Δ ABC and Δ EDC
CAB = CED (Given)

ACB = ECD (common angle)

By AA similarity criteria both triangles are similar.

Hence ΔABC ~ Δ EDC
fraction numerator D E over denominator B A end fraction equals fraction numerator C D over denominator B C end fraction (Corresponding sides of similar triangles)
x over 9 equals fraction numerator 8 over denominator 2 plus 10 end fraction x space equals 2 over 3 cross times 9 x space equals 6
x = 6 cm
