Solution

POST FERTILIZATION CHANGES: The major changes that are taking place in the ovule soon after fertilization are as follows:
  • Zygote or oospore undergoes mitotic divisions and develops to a multicellular embryo. this is called embryogeny.
  • The primary endosperm nucleus divides repeatedly and gives rise to the endosperm to supply nourishment to the developing embryo.
  • Embryo sac expands to accommodate the developing embryo and the growing endosperm.
  • Nucleus gets mostly used up by the embryo, and its remnant forms the perisperm. Now, the whole space inside the integument becomes filled with endosperm and embryo.
  • outer integument of the ovule becomes Testa, and the inner one becomes the Tegmen. The two together forms the seed coat.
  • Ovule develops to a seed integuments from the seed coat, ovary becomes a fruit, and the ovarian wall forms the fruit wall or pericarp.
