Vertebrae are bones that form the vertebral column. It is a characteristic feature of vertebrate animals. There are 10 vertebrae in frogs. The first vertebra is the cervical vertebra called atlas. The next seven are abdominal vertebrae, the eighth vertebrae is the sacral vertebrae that joins with the ileum. The last vertebra is called urostyle. Urostyle is a long unsegmented bone that is present in the anurans like frogs and toads. It is formed by the fusion of the caudal vertebrae. In other words, the urostyle comprises the coccyx and hypochord (rod-like structure present under the notochord).
