Question

In J.J. Thomson's Charge to Mass Ratio of Electrons Experiment, why do the particles deviate downwards ? Is there any specific reason as for electric field i.e, particles deviate towards +vedue to unlike charges?

Solution

Dear user,
When electric and magnetic field applied with proper balance then particle strike at the centre of fluorescent sheet and when only magnetic field is applied particles downwards.
Electron has negative charge so deviate toward positive when electric field is applied.
