Solution

  • When a solute is dissolved in a solvent to make a solution, the solute particles come in between the solvent particle by breaking the solvent-solvent interaction and forming a new solute-solvent interaction.
  • In the question, solvent-solvent intermolecular forces are stronger as compared to solvent-solute intermolecular forces. So, the solute particle can not easily overcome the solvent-solvent intermolecular forces and make new solute-solvent interactions.
  • Therefore, firstly we have to break the solvent-solvent intermolecular forces by giving heat. Since heat is supplied in making the solution.
  • Hence, the process is exothermic.
