a. The right to vote forms the bedrock of a democratic society.
b. It is true that there are many countries, which may claim to be democratic but do not extend the right to vote to women.
c. In fact, even the World's oldest Democracy that is the US granted the right to vote to women in 1965.
d. It has to do with the gendered notion of the society, that sought to create artificial division in the society between men and women.
e.Gender prejudice is the result of such a mindset in which a society develops a preconceived idea about women that is not based on knowledge, reason or thought.
f. The society has always fixed women in a particular realm regarding the private sphere for them and since voting is the public domain, it must be restricted to males.
g. Further, women's participation in the political sphere is not appreciated many who still hold prejudiced attitude towards women
h. It is also argued that their participation in the public domain would hamper their household chores.
i. Thus, for Women to attain respect and equality is certainly a continuous struggle.
Yes, everyone should be given the right to vote equally for the fair and progressive working of the government.
