Question

In mass spectrograph we first take a molecular sample and then convert into positive ions why ? And it is given that these ions are then allowed to pass through uniform electric and magnetic field which make them execute circular motion . the radius of the circular path is proportional to the mass of charged particle and hence gives the molecular mass . how the molecular mass is calculated in terms of radius and mass of charged particle ?
