Question

in meldes experiment the ration of number of loops on the string in transverse mode of vibration to the number of loops on the string in longitudinal mode of vibration of the same tuning fork is

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

in meldes experiment
The frequency of string in transverse direction is equal to the freq of tuning fork
The frequency of string in longitudinal direction is half times the freq of tuning fork.
freq f is proportional to the number of loops assuming length and tension are constant
Hence ratio of no of loops in transverse to the longitudinal = 2
