Each myosin (thick) filament is also a polymerized protein. Many monomeric proteins called meromyosins constitute one thick filament. Each meromyosin is divided into 2 parts- heavy meromyosin (HMM) consisting of a globular head with a short arm and light meromyosin (LMM) consisting of a tail. The globular head is an ATPase and has binding sites for ATP and active sites for actin.
