The strength of a covalent bond is the energy for its breakage. We have single and multiple covalent bonds. A multiple bond is formed by a sigma bond and either 1 or 2 pi-electron bonds. The sigma bonds are more stable, because the overlapping of their orbitals is frontal. The pi-electron bonds are formed by side overlapping of the pi-electrons. hence they are much easier to break.
