Solution

The correct option is D 8000
Let the initial population be x
In 1st year population increased by = 10 %
10 % increase is population =10100x=0.1x
After 1st year population =x+0.1x=1.1x
After 2nd 10% decrease, 90% of 1st year
population = (90100)×1.1x
At the end of 2nd year population = 7920
Hence 0.99x=7920
x=7920÷0.99
x=792000÷99
x=8000
The population at the beginning was 8000
option B is correct
