The male produces two type of sperms - one having genetic makeup as 22A+X and other one having as 22A+Y. So, if a sperm consisting of genetic makeup 22A+X fertilizes the egg of genetic makeup 22A+X then will result in the formation of zygote having genotype as 22AA+XX which will result in the female child. While, if a sperm of genetic makeup 22A+Y fertilizes the egg of genetic makeup 22A+X then will result in the formation of zygote having the genetic constitution of 22AA+XY, which will result in the formation of the male child. So, clearly mother is never responsible for the sex of a child, it is the father who determines the sex of a child.
